"How do I get involved?"

To get involved as a contributing film maker or photographer you must first register here on this site and follow the instructions in our Take Part section.

"Where do I send my tapes?"

The address for posting your tapes will be given to you once you have completed a submission form. To complete a submission form for tapes, clips or stills you must first be registered and logged in, when logged in you have a menu which contains the Submit Material button.

"Will I get my tapes back?"

Unfortunately not, we regret that we will be unable to return submitted tapes, we would advise anyone to make a copy of their tape prior to posting it to us.

"How will you know whose footage is whose?"

We have devised a labelling system that ALL tapes must be labelled with - a NOW label is given to all users who complete a submissions form. All clips that are exported from tapes will retain this labelling in the resultant filenames. Your NOW label links your material back to you so use it!

"What is the deadline for submissions?"

There is no absolute deadline, but we would like to get as many submissions in as possible by June/July 2004.

"When will the film be finished?"

There is a flexible timetable for the film's completion, depending on quality and quantity of footage received. However we would like to get as many submissions in as possible by June/July 2004.

"Where will the film be shown?"

We hope to show the film in cinemas, on the internet and at festivals and other cultural events

"Will I get free tickets to the film?"

We hope to launch the film simultaneously in a number of countries, we can't guarantee at this stage that we will be able to give you free tickets, but every successful contributor will definitely be sent a copy of the film on CD-ROM or DVD.

"Can I upload previews of my footage?"

Yes please! If you have captured any of your footage and can send us a video clip as a preview (.mpeg, .avi, .mov, .wmv are our preferred formats) then you can use the upload features on this site. You must be registered and logged in and then you can Submit a Video Clip via upload - we also accept stills via upload too! We will request the source for anything we feel is suited to inclusion.

"What sort of codecs, image size and file sizes are suitable for uploading clips and images?"

The codec is generally not that important as long as it's a standard one eg cinepak, indeo, mp4, DV etc. Even MJpeg (motion J peg) codec clips made on specific video boards eg Matrox Millenium should be OK. for clips we can actually use in NOW, really the minimum image size would be 320x240.
File size for clips cannot be over 100meg.

"What should I film?"

Please see the section on Themes and Techniques.

"I have little money and cannot afford to send you a tape"

If you just cannot afford to send us a tape unless you know your footage will be used, you could upload a RealMedia file which we can view. Then if we want to use it we can contact you to say please do send us the source tape. In the case of exceptional footage we might be able to assist with tape cost and postage.

"Can I submit stuff I have previously licensed elsewhere?"

That will depend on the way you have licensed the footage, if it is a non-exclusive licence then you should be free to contribute it to the NOW! project - however we do have a preference for footage shot specifically for the NOW! project!

"How will I know if you are using my stuff?"

All successful contributors will be notified by email when the final edit is complete.

"When do I get paid?"

Initial payments will be made to sucessful contributing film-makers whose footage is used in the final edit, once the film has made a net profit of £10,000. Thereafter, payments will be made after each subsequent £10,000 of net profit has been earned.

"How much will I get paid?"

You will be paid relative to the amount of your footage that makes it into the final edit. e.g. For simplicity's sake, if you get 10 minutes of footage into the final edit, and the final film is 60 minutes long you will have contributed 1/6th of the final edit. Net profits are to be split 3 main ways between Coldcut (33%), FUTERRA (33%) and you the Film-makers (33%), so if net profits of £10,000 are made, you would receive £3,300/6 = £550.
